Corporate Wellness

When talking about workplace wellness I often face apprehension around how much value it adds to a company. I know these practices have transformed and enhanced my life and millions of others but its always good to have research to back up anecdotal evidence. Wellness programs are now commonplace in companies and as a result we have more research to support their effectiveness.

In addition to the great feedback on our own programs, I was able to find research on boosting productivity, retention, talent attraction, stronger culture and reduced absenteeism. Lets have a look and check out the links if you want to dive deeper.

The American Psychological Association found 92% of workers said it is important to them to work for an organization that values their emotional and psychological well-being and wellbeing programs help reduce burnout—a major productivity killer. Additionally, a study by Gallup found that employees who are engaged and feel well-supported in terms of their well-being are 17% more productive than those who are disengaged.

Employee wellbeing is also a key factor in retention. When employees feel supported, they’re less likely to look for a job elsewhere. In the same Gallup study from above employees who have access to wellbeing programs are more likely to stay with their employer saving on the costs associated with recruitment and training new employees.

Attracting top talent is another significant advantage of robust employee wellbeing programs. Millennials and Gen Z employees, in particular, place a high value on work-life balance and mental health support. The Virgin HealthMiles/Workforce survey found that about 87% of employees said they consider health and wellness offerings when choosing an employer.

Wellbeing programs also foster a positive workplace culture, which enhances employee satisfaction. According to McKinsey, organizations that prioritize employee wellbeing tend to have better morale and higher employee engagement. This creates an environment where employees feel valued, leading to more collaboration, creativity, and innovation. When employees are happy, they’re more likely to go above and beyond, leading to a more dynamic and successful company.

There is also research on absenteeism, both the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and Harvard Business Review study showed investment in employee wellbeing resulted in reduced sick days due to lower levels of stress, illness and burnout

I hope the rabbit hole I went into for the last few days helps shed some light on the opportunities associated with corporate wellness programs and can help you have informed conversations about their benefits. If those benefits are of interest to you and your organisation lets have a chat.
